Bringing Cancer Care Closer to Home
Hope for Tomorrow is a UK charity that launched the world’s first Mobile Cancer Care Unit in 2007.
The charity works in partnership with the NHS to provide mobile chemotherapy units, reducing travel stress and hospital waiting times for cancer patients by bringing care into the heart of their communities.
Recruiting in the Third Sector
Working for a nonprofit is something people either dream to do, or never even consider. Our challenge as a trusted recruitment partner is to locate the right people who may have never considered venturing into the world of charity and open their eyes to the opportunities available to them.
The sector operates in largely the same way as all other industries; if anything, charities have to operate under a closer scrutiny than most, given that they work largely with donations and grants. But at the crux of it, it’s a business, and that business requires staff across:
- Finance
- Business Development and Marketing
- Administration
- Customer Service
- Operational Management
- C-Suite Executive Positions
In becoming an extension of their team, RE Recruitment fully immerse themselves in their client’s business, understanding the team dynamics and giving them the ability to select candidates who they know will ‘fit’. In such a people-oriented and emotive sector, this is so important to keep operations running smoothly, especially when operational subject matter can be sensitive.
We look for people who care, perhaps even having had direct experience of using the service offered by Hope for Tomorrow, and transferrable skills that can flourish in the charity sector when nurtured in the right way. A large proportion of our recruited candidates come from outside the sector. Many never leave the sector afterwards, even if they do move on to another charity after a few years!
Having an understanding and close relationship with Hope for Tomorrow, sometimes Abi will simply know a candidate is too good to miss and will speculatively send over a CV to make sure the opportunity doesn’t pass the candidate or the client by. Effectively, Hope for Tomorrow have head hunters at their beck and call, but they don’t pay over the odds for this service; it’s just part and parcel of what we would call a solid working relationship!
“I have been using Abi for many years now. RE Recruitment are my recruiter of choice for many different roles within the breadth of the charity. The approach they use is to fully understand your organisation and its people, then to match this with candidates with the appropriate skills for the role you are trying to fill. There is always a personal touch when working together which makes recruitment feel less daunting, advice on the next steps and the ability to listen and hear when necessary. Together with this is Abi’s personal enthusiasm to get you the right person which is both infectious and reassuring.”
