Depot Operations Manager
Full time – Bicester
Hours of Work: 07.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday
Salary – £40,000-£50,000
Key Duties:
To manage all employees employed within the jobholder’s defined area of responsibility, ensuring a high level of motivation, discipline and morale are maintained and that individual potential is encouraged and developed where possible through regular reviews and training, both on the job and formal, depending on individual circumstances, by:
- Ensuring that all Company health & safety and employment policies and procedures are always complied with in a fair and consistent manner.
- Ensuring all new employees are trained and inducted appropriately at the earliest opportunity in line with Company policy.
- Ensuring attendance is regular and identifying and acting upon absences in line with Company policy.
- Being responsible for disciplinary issues, taking advice from HR and the board of directors.
- Being responsible for any performance reviews the Company may adopt for employees in the defined area of responsibility.
- Ensuring that regular meetings / toolbox talks take place with employees to encourage feedback and to share new ideas in a consistent manner.
- Ensuring that all mobile workers’ hours are managed and recorded strictly within the legal regulations in force.
- Identifying any training needs for you and your department.
- Ensuring the depot’s budget is managed efficiently and reported on monthly and at any interval as requested by the Board of Directors.
- Maintain industry accreditations by staying compliant and working to achieve all that is needed for the accreditation, i.e. Mission Zero, BSI.
- Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures including health and safety and employment.
Qualifications:
- Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) standard in maths and English.
- Certificate of Professional Competence.
- Full clean driving licence, ideally with LGV Class 2 entitlement.
Experience/ Skills / Knowledge:
- Ideally have 5 years’ experience within the logistics industry in a supervisory or managerial position, with proof of success and effectiveness. Ideally within the pallet or parcel sector.
- Confident communicator, both written and verbal, with employees and customers.
- Computer and IT literate with a good understanding / working knowledge of the Word, Excel and Outlook programs.
- Good numeric skills to enable an understanding of budgets and manipulation of data for reporting purposes.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills to enable motivation of the team to achieve success at the depot. Strong negotiating skills. Strong judgement skills.
- Ability to move and change systems and processes within a growing business.
- Good cost-control skills to ensure budgets and targets are met.
- Possess a sound working knowledge of current, and any upcoming, legislation that may affect the Company’s business i.e. Health & Safety, EU Drivers Hours and Employment Law.
- Track record of delivery of continuous improvement in the field of customer service.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Practical hands-on approach, promoting a ‘can do attitude’ from self and the team.
- Good geographical knowledge of the operational area covered by the depot.
