Software Engineering Technician

This is a key role requiring an individual:

Purpose of the role:

To provide technician-level support the Software Development Team’s output of appropriate and wellpresented web-based software for customer use which will be maintainable, with low defects and to agreed timescales. To support customer-facing staff assisting customers to adopt and use software supplied by or through the business.

Reports to:

Chief Technology Officer

Key duties:

Software Development:Under the direction and support of (a) Chief Technology Officer and (b) Software Verification and Data Support Engineer you will:

1       Follow software development processes to meet best practice and business needs,

2       Provide first line support for Customers and Colleagues,

3       Review system information including (but not limited to): system notes, bundle audit trail, system email/logs, history, audit logs, to identify technical root cause analysis (RCA) of problems,

4       Write detailed RCA reports for use by the development team in the identification and repair of software issues,

5       Work with Quality Assurance team on the software validation process, to ensure software is presentable, user friendly and functional against agreed business requirements,

6       Assist with the creation of NetSuite components including (but not limited to): workflows, saved searches, XML/PDF templates, reports, roles, mass updates, CSV imports and SuiteBundles,

7       Work with Sales & Marketing Director to setup demo environments for our Software,

8       Contribute to the data import process, by using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Microsoft Excel to build high quality, easy-to-use Data Import Spreadsheets,

9       Support the entire software development lifecycle including debugging, quality assurance and installation/deployment,

10    Support colleagues who are migrating data between software system,

11    Support professional service and implementation teams with installations and configuration, 12 Support customer system integrations during development, roll-out and into the future.

The above are the main responsibilities of the role; it is likely that other work will be required in supporting the organisation’s activities and that the role will develop over time to suit the changing needs of the business.  A flexible approach by the role holder to developing and contributing to the growth of the business will be a prime requirement for success in this role.

Experience (Essential)

  • Competence with IT to use the essentials of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, e-mail, web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge, Brave, Safari).  Training will be given in use of in-house systems
  • Competence in communicating in the English language both orally and in writing
  • Experience using NetSuite SuiteBuilder (Custom Records, Searches, Forms, Centres, tabs and dashboards)
  • Experience using NetSuite SuiteFlow (Workflows)
  • Experience using NetSuite Audit Trails/History (Including System Notes, Sent email list, login audit trail, script execution logs.)
  • General Knowledge/awareness of SuiteBundler
  • Sufficient experience of software programming, database use, data processing, an understanding of database architecture and use of website update tools
  • At least 2 years’ experience operating in a business environment
  • Sufficient experience of working in a team environment
  • Customer care skills, patience and efficiency in dealing with business contacts, customers and colleagues, by telephone and in person, in a warm and friendly manner, particularly with international contacts whose first language may not be English.

(Beneficial but not essential)

  • Experience using SuiteBundler
  • Experience using SuiteScript 1.0/2.0/2.1
  • Experience working in a development environment with finance software
  • Experience with the VBA programming language
  • Experience using UML Use-Case
  • Experience using version control such as Subversion
  • Experience working in an agile and fast-paced environment
  • Achieved a recognised RQF level 4 or equivalent IT competency qualification
  • Experience of software testing
  • Achieved a recognised RQF level 3 or equivalent customer care competency qualification
  • A full UK driving licence.

Practical arrangements and benefits

  • Location of Work: The successful candidate’s home location will determine the location of work.  Most

Staff living locally to head office (Cheltenham GL51), work Mondays and Thursdays at the office and the rest of the week from home.  For those further away the frequency of visits is reduced, with some permanently home-working.  Work location will be negotiated at interview.  Visits to Client sites in the UK and sometimes overseas may very occasionally be required when travelling expenses will be paid.

  • Expenses will be refunded in accordance with Expenses Policy (this does not normally cover expenses travelling from home to office unless the journey is over 100 miles one-way)
  • Holidays: 31 days including English public holidays, rising by one additional day each year in year three and in subsequent years of continuous employment up to a maximum of 36 days including public holidays
  • Sick Pay: During Probation period (normally first six months): SSP.  Post satisfactory completion of Probation: up to one week’s full pay and one week’s half pay in any calendar year
  • Pension: automatically enrolls eligible employees who are UK residents into a pension scheme approved by The Pensions Regulator as required by law
  • Personal Health insurance: for employees who are UK residents: a contribution post satisfactory completion of Probation
  • A subsidised on-site canteen and restaurant at head office (subject to availability)
  • Free on-site parking at head office worth £750 per year (subject to availability)
  • Notice of termination: during first six months: one week from either side, post six months: one month from either side rising to 5 weeks on the anniversary of the first start date, 6 weeks on the second, 7 weeks on the third and 8 weeks on the fourth.

Hours Per Week: Full time 37.5 hrs per week normally Monday to Friday

Salary: £25k – £34k depending on experience
