Weld Quality Controller & Trainer
Full-time, Permanent – Competitive Salary DOE

My client, a progressive and innovative group with globally renowned products are looking for a Weld Quality Controller & Trainer to help the business maintain its high manufacturing standards. A key role in the inspection, monitoring and continuous improvement of the Quality of in-house and third-party laser cut and folded materials, welded fabrications.
Key Responsibilities – Quality
- Working with Design, Production Engineering and Quality, the WQC will define the features Critical To Quality (CTQ‘s) and develop inspection and checking processes and procedures accordingly – for incorporation into the Process Control documentation.
- Responsible for recording all Production non-conformances using the Corrective & Preventative Action (CPA) process and, working with the Process / Production Engineer, identify the root cause of the non-conformance using established Quality methodology.
- Process issue – Work with Production Engineering (Tool Room) to check, refurbish or modify jigs and fixtures and / or create training programs for employee learning and development.
- Supplier issue – Work with Purchasing and the Production Engineering team to qualify and document the issue and monitor subsequent deliveries. Act as QC for new parts or supplier changes.
- It will be the responsibility of the WQC to record and maintain the CPA ‘log’ within the Weld Department, ensuring that all Design, Engineering, Purchasing and Process documentation changes are actioned and closed in a timely manner.
- The WQC will be responsible for recording the monthly rework hours (KPI) in the Weld Department, analyse the data to identify repeat issues, lead and facilitate cross functional Continuous Improvement events.
Key Responsibilities – Learning and development
- As Weld Trainer, you will work closely with the Production Manager and Weld Team Leaders to define and document the skills matrices for the Weld Department in line with business needs.
- Against this matrix, the Weld Trainer will regularly monitor and assess the capability and competencies of the Weld department employees.
- Using your technical skills, experience and knowledge, train members of the weld department in line with company expectations of Standard processes, quality, and output [process time]
- The Weld Trainer will be responsible for documenting and maintaining records of all training undertaken; including third party ‘coded’ welder status; and liaise regularly with the Weld Team Leaders to identify future training requirements in support of business needs.
Candidate Requirements
- Have advanced knowledge and experience of Fabrication / Welding
- Can read and interpret technical fabrication drawings.
- Experience of working with measuring equipment Have Good IT skills, Word, and Excel
- Be able to produce inspection reports.
- Be highly motivated, flexible, responsive to change and calm under pressure.
- Encourage positive, open discussion on any deficiencies, safety and quality specifications, making recommendations to improve processes and methods where identified.
- You may be required to work in the weld production line to cover any absenteeism or increase in work load.
Ability to commute/relocate:
Ross-on-Wye: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- MIG welding: 5 years (preferred)
- Fabrication: 5 years (preferred)
