Employee Engagement Manager (Communications)

Purpose
To lead a range of initiatives and ongoing projects designed to improve the way we communicate with our workforce, attract potential new recruits & introduce them to the company and how we manage policy changes. Providing effective cover to manage HR casework and processes in the absence of the HR Manager is also a key part of the role.

Using your HR and internal communications expertise, your main responsibility will be to ensure we communicate with our employees and prospective applicants in the most engaging, informative and appropriate way. By building strong relationships with managers and directors across the business you’ll need to research and understand our key messages and translate these into the most readable/watchable formats, with the support of our in-house graphic designer when appropriate.

As part of a team of four, you should expect to have regular involvement in broader aspects of HR too. This means you’ll not just create communications; you’ll have first-hand experience of their impact and the opportunity to continuously improve the way we engage with our staff and potential new recruits.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting job descriptions and adverts to support recruitment
  • Reviewing and updating the information used to promote opportunities (for example, on our website)
  • Assisting with the selection process, helping to convey our culture and expectations whilst contributing to selection decisions
  • Reviewing our induction materials and processes to create the most engaging and informative experience for new starters
  • Supporting any employee consultation processes necessary when changes are required
  • Working with managers and directors to help communicate planned changes or other complex messages
  • Writing regular internal e-newsletter content to share news updates with our staff
  • Supporting the creation of monthly video newsletters to be issued to our site-based staff, helping directors and managers to create suitable scripts, contributing content ideas and quality-checking video edits
  • Providing cover for our HR Manager as required. This may include providing HR advice to managers, supporting HR casework such as disciplinaries and grievances, and providing back-up to ensure regular HR processes run effectively Overseeing the arrangements for any staff social events, with administrative support from colleagues as required

Requirements

  • Qualifications and experience: Ideally CIPD qualified (Level 5+) but applicants without this qualification will be considered if they have relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing employee communications such as speeches, video scripts, newsletters, handbooks, policies, job adverts or content for presentations
  • Significant experience of managing others and providing advice to other managers on HR matters
  • Ideally some experience of handling HR casework in a ‘blue collar’ sector
