The role in short
Reporting to the Head of Operations and Logistics, responsible for the effective and efficient running of a multi-site, B2C day shift operation, that despatched over 600,000 customer orders in 2021.

Directly responsible for the Site / Shift Managers and their teams, undertaking operational activities including the receipt of both Containers and UK products, picking, packing, and despatching customer orders via multiple carriers. Responsible for developing a team through coaching / training of employees, building a culture of Health and Safety, for maintaining operational budgets and delivering a high-quality customer service

Onto the nitty gritty!

Management of Shift Managers; including,

  • Provide motivation, training, coaching and support to fully develop your team
  • Strong performance in onboarding, inductions, probations, performance management, absence management
  • Decision making in areas of recruitment and resource management
  • Developing a culture of achievement, teamwork, trust, understanding and positivity

Key accountabilities; including,

  • Take operational leadership for managing a safe and efficient B2C operation, achieving operational standards and meeting all customer service levels.
  • Develop the Management / Supervisory team to support their teams including, goal setting, performance management, competency development, recognition, engagement, wellbeing.
  • Work with your Managers to understand the daily operational capacity / output of the shift and confirm resources are enough to achieve daily output.
  • Recognise risks preventing achievement of daily targets and developing solutions to remove barriers.
  • Instil strong, transparent, communication between operational functions, sites and shifts to maximise operational efficiency and delivery of operational targets
  • Develop and share best / common practices across all sites and shifts, ensuring standards are aligned and consistently delivered.
  • Work collaboratively with the Inventory and Planning Managers to deliver best practice and build teams centred on development, quality of service and right 1st time delivery for all customers
  • Working with team to seek out opportunities for removing waste / inefficiencies and improve productivity
  • Ensure all system driven daily reports are actioned, to optimise the efficiency of the picking operation and maintain effective pick walk sequences
  • Proactive management of stock layout to reflect storage requirements, ensuring all stocks located correctly and default bins / zones are maintained in both physical and system format
  • When needed, provide the Site / Shift Managers with support in carrying out their duties
  • Support a culture that promotes working safely with a strong focus on quality and Continuous Improvement
  • Undertake any other duties to ensure the successful performance of all operations teams.

We’d like to meet someone with

  • Minimum 2 years’ proven experience in an operations management role within in the last 5 years
  • Able to demonstrate experience of the required management practices shown above
  • Have a good understanding of Operations using Warehouse Management Systems
  • Bring strong, consistent Leadership with energy, enthusiasm, commitment, and integrity
  • Clear concise communication skills, both written and spoken, comfortable communicating with staff, Senior Management, and all internal / external customers.
  • Agile and adaptable allowing for multi-tasking and simultaneous projects
  • Goal orientated and experienced at handling pressured situations
  • Information driven, comfortable using data / reports to seek out opportunities for self-development, to improve standards and team performance
  • Demonstrates commitment to openness, honesty, loyalty, and empathy
  • Decisive, confident addressing problems and opportunities, demonstrate willingness to challenge accepted methods and standards
  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for team performance
  • Experience with change management and working with lean principles (5s, Kanban) preferred
  • Experience working with 3rd party carriers preferred
  • Experience of running multiple sites preferred but not essential
  • Understanding of end-to-end supply chain preferred but not essential

Experience:

  • Operations management: 2 years (preferred)
