A Bumper Harvest for Northway Pantry
This autumn, we decided as a team to go out to businesses across our local areas and instead of do the usual ‘recruiter bringing some branded merch’, we thought we’d ask them to give something back this time!
Given the time of year, and thinking back to old-school assemblies where everyone brought in tinned or preserved goods that were built up into a pyramid or pile in the middle of the main hall, for donating to those in need, it was decided our request would be simple; help those in need by asking for donations of the tins or jars at the back of the cupboard you’d forgotten about!
We called it our Harvest Festival Drive; to collect much-needed food and everyday essentials for The Northway Pantry, a food bank in the heart of the area we work in. The donations are helping the pantry to continue the brilliant work they do supporting local people and families.
We spend every day helping local businesses find great people and helping people find great jobs, but being part of a community means more than recruitment. It means showing up, getting involved and giving something back. We have built a reputation in the area for being an upstanding and honest recruitment business. This is because we aren’t simply interested in finding people jobs, we want to be part of both businesses and employees’ journeys throughout. That means sticking together through thick and thin.
When times are good, and things are abundant, share that with those around you. When times are harder, and you’re feeling the pinch, a strong network and a community spirit pulls around you to help get you through. We think this is reflective of our approach. We don’t want to be there simply for the good times, nor do we only want to be pulling someone out of a bad patch. We are in this for the long haul, and contrary to popular belief, sometimes we want to come see businesses to simply have a catch up and learn about how things are going – we are not all about making placements (although we are rather good at that should you need to find a new role, or as an employer find a new team member…!)
The Northway Pantry wrote to us today to say thanks and explain the impact this donation has made:
“Last week we received your incredible Harvest donation. It made us so happy to see what you had gathered to give to us and I just wanted to send you all a massive THANKYOU!
Your harvest donation has come at a vital time, ensuring our shelves remain stocked for local families facing food insecurity. Across the two pantries we support 37 households - 66 adults and 76 Children. The pantry regularly now needs to buy toiletries, cleaning items and food items, we generally purchase the cheapest and most basic items so having what they will class as some luxuries will really lift everyone's spirits over the next few weeks.
I thought you might like to hear what the pantry means to someone that needs to use it.
In a recent survey one of our members indicated that the pantry had supported her by reducing her financial pressures, it helped her feel less stressed, and she had gained advice and information. She added, “the pantry has really helped with food cost, my mental health and provided much needed social interactions. The people are friendly and care.”
Your ongoing support allows us to continue this great work.”
