Mechanical Design Engineer
Location – Malvern, Fulltime
Permanent – £36,000-£40,000
The Role:
- Work closely with our customers and sales department to conceptualise and design advanced fire appliances for deployment in the UK and worldwide.
- Plan and execute mechanical designs using mechanical CAD systems. Create the full 3D model design prior to manufacture and render models for tender submission and marketing material.
- Prepare all necessary production drawings and build information, in line with agreed company schedules, to ensure that performance and quality requirements of the specification are met.
- Ensure all designs are cost effective in terms of optimising the utilisation of labour and materials.
- Ensure compliance to standards required by our customers in their applicable territory and also ensuring that all statutory requirements are met.
- Provide, issue and control design documentation to company departments and sub-contractors.
- Manage multiple projects from conception to completion liaising with both internal and external customers and suppliers. Collaborate with other Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers.
- Developing and building prototypes to test their function. Conducting user research to identify customer needs, keep abreast of developments in the market and generate ideas for improvement.
- Keep abreast of the latest advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices.
The Person:
- Degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proficient in Mechanical CAD programs such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Creo or similar packages.
- Experience of a design/development role in a commercially demanding environment with a good understanding of design processes to include solution specification through to product design, build and acceptance testing as well as subsequent technical support for in service operation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Good knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices. Attention to detail is a must.
- Product-focused creative thinking and in-depth knowledge of industry design principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Must be highly proficient using Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams.
